Stopped in at Maui Brewing Company for happy hour after a long sweaty afternoon outside. I like the idea of places like this more than the reality sometimes — a big shiny brewery, a big menu, a big brand — but you try it anyway because twenty taps is twenty taps.
The short version: they have twenty beers and honestly none of them blew me away. Everything was competent. Clean. Nothing offensive and nothing memorable. The Pau Hana Pilsner was probably my favorite, crisp and light, but I could get that same vibe from a cold Sapporo next door for less money.
Ordered the flight plus a pretzel, sat on the patio, watched a little breeze push the palms around. The pretzel was fine. The salt was fine. The beer glass was cold. I have no complaints I'd put in writing; I just won't think about this meal tomorrow.
If you're a beer person chasing something specific, I'd skip it and hunt down a smaller brewpub. If you're already here with people who want a standard happy hour and a patio, it will do the job without embarrassing anyone.
